Top Girl
Must be said, the idea is not totally bad. Yes, is very old, but the concept of sex and compromises in the world of entertainment is an interesting theme, especially if the great Joe D’Amato is the director. Unfortunately we are in the nineties and the beloved Aristide is no longer the one of best times and even genre cinema is not at its best.
So his "Top Girl" is one of those third-night films on poor tv channels, full of annoying music and whose greatest expense is undoubtedly the shots in Los Angeles. A plot of a deadly boredom and, needless to say, a bad acting.
Between overlays, flash backs and still the terrifying background music we see this story of dramatic compromises. The success that ruins the life of a naive (so to speak) aspiring actress.
Mike (played by the Italian Robert Madison, then moved on to the TV series) is a kind of show runner of the soap opera "La voce el cuore", broadcast on Canale 7. A series who is suffering from a sharp drop in audience and the production wants a change, a new face. And the computer provides the identikit of Patricia (the Aosta Carla Solaro) who has long dreamed of breaking into the world of entertainment.
Patricia thus becomes the protagonist of this soap opera, which we never see, and above all ends up at the center of shady games of power and audience. Everyone takes advantage of her. Mike falls in love early (and they have sex), the network director deceives her, takes her to bed and promises her everything and more. And finally there is Patricia's useless boyfriend, Rick, who is seen at the beginning and a little at the end.
An embarrassing erotic intrigue with the usual under plot of jealousy and power. Carla Solaro undresses often (and unwillingly) but, sex and power is another thing
