The Attack of The 50 Foot Woman

Radiation hurt. As always. Even the aliens are always the same and they come to Earth in  search of something. As usual.
The different thing however is that here we have neither the usual happy us couple, nor  the intelligent and handsome hero who destroys the invader, but we have a story worthy  of a "soap opera".
He, she and the other woman. He has often a good time with his lover, under the sun, in  public places and with her he plan the murder of his wife, a wealthy owner of a huge  diamond but under psychiatric treatmen. But she nevertheless loves him madly and does  everything to keep him tight.

It's a wonder this sci-fi, a little different from usual, with a story that travels  between jealousy, attempted murder, love, diamonds and gigantism.
An interesting idea that crashes with a terrifying realization, made by over posizioning  not credible, just as poor special effects and giantism, the center of history, made a  lively and unrestrained use of papier mache.
You know, it's a great "B Movie"! One of those who have so much sympathy, one of give us  a nostalgia for the magic cinema of fifties.

Directly from the "Mutations" strand (human ones) a genre that can boast a cult as "The  Incredible Shrinking Man" or "The Amazing Colossal Man" comes to us the history of this  rich woman a little 'crazy and a little' victim. Nancy Fowler married Archer. Married to  a womanizer Harry, a day on his way she find huge flying ball out of which comes a  giant.
Of course no one believes in a woman being treated for mental disorders and the poor  Nancy  to convince her husband took  him into the desert where they find the mysterious  ship. She then gets mad, he then rejoice, because he is close to the objective of  eliminating the hated wife. But the problem is that from meeting Nancy begins to grow  out and you can imagine that you can't beat a giant jealous wife. So huge, as in love,  so big to be able to do what she pleases, as to go and shoot her husband at the bar,  find him with his lover.
A bad figure for Harry, caught in public by a woman fifteen-odd meters, which also shows  some skill in contortion, managing to stay Reclining in the bedroom of their house.
Crazyness as a good "B's" , which mean that this is a pleasant view, just like many of  the same years. A film that we can appreciate for the fact that actors engage much more  than the director and production do.
"Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman" has become over the years a "cult movie" that has  generated a whole series of parallel things. Let's start with the official sequel, a  rumour that was born from the success of the movie filmed with little budget that has  been a great success. Expected color, with a bigger budget has remained an unfinished  project. Years went by and the history repeated. This time was Jim Wyrnosky that in the  eighties think a remake, and also produces some samples. But no way, at the end Wyrnoski  choose "Not Of This Earth", as we know and the for a new 50ft woman must wait another  few years. In 1993 Christopher Guest shoot his version of history, with Daryl Hannah as  the star.
A few years later, in 1995, Fred Olen Ray also engages in the theme, in his way,  however, with "Attack of The 60ft Centerfold", which is more a vague parody than  anything else.
The years pass and we get to 2012 with Roger Corman, who produced "Attack of the 50 Foot  Cheerleader" a film by Kevin O'Neill coming out in August.
Returning to the original must be said, with a bad joke, that the cast is made up of  giants too.
For example, the rich Nancy, which among other changes not only in size, even in look  become a fascinating giant is played by Allison Hayes. Allison is a true queen of "B  Movie" of the fifties and sixties with  a presence in numerous productions as "The  Undead" of Corman and "The Unheartly" with the legendary Tor Johnson.
In the years she has changed many genres demonstrated some versatility, which also  includes some TV series. She died in 1977 at only forty-seven. Her death so untimely,  has something that is absurd, similar to "b movie", with all due respect.
Sick for years, her disease is underestimated by doctors. She doesn't improve, and while  reading a book about the poisoning by metals, she recognize her symptoms. Then she  investigate about her disease  following and the results are that she was subjected to  an overdose of calcium that has poisoned her. She start a campaing to ban certain drugs,  she wins, but she doesn't see success. Her health is deteriorating and she fall ill for  leukemia too.
We must stay happy and we also speak about the good William Hudson, of course the  betrayel Harry, who was also struggling with a very short life. He died at forty-nine  years after a career which saw him starring as Clark Ranger in the series "Rocky Jones,  Space Ranger" and as agent Mike Andrews of the series "I Led Three Lives", as well as  having starred in several sci-fi " Low-budget. "
Finally we find Yvette Vickers notorious "pin-up" which here plays the famme fatale.
As you can imagine has based her career on beauty. She became "Playmate" in 1959 and  actress in other films and on TV. You want some more of sadness? Unfortunately we have,  for the life of Yvette, found dead some time after his death.
The director however is an old fox. Nathan H.Juran jew Romanian transferred whe he was  young to the States was a producer, director and art director. In this latest role, he  also won an Oscar in 1941 for "How Green Was My Valley", but is famous for the many  sci-fi that has shot or product.
Bernard Woolner instead is one of many "culprits" behind this film. Owner of the first  "Drive-In" in Memphis makes history with his brother David, under the name "Woolner  Brothers" and is the producer of this film. The Woolner are at the heart of the "low- budget", cinema of the time and have produced several films of Corman also entering for  a short period in the "New World Pictures," the house of the great Roger. Giants all,  always attacking the cinema!
