Amazonia: the Catherine Miles Story

Dated, ridiculous and absurd. "Mondo Cane" to modern men's eyes, looks like this. And its subject wouldn’t have place even in the worst sensationalist show of the worst regional TV. But if we try to imagine the 1962 society and the dissemination of information of the time we realize how "Mondo Cane" was surprising and innovative, and why it has so much influence on the world of cinema.

Make a film about cannibals, without cannibals and out of time, it’s not a great idea. Even make a film that recalls "Cannibal Holocaust", it isn’t a good idea. And try to convince us that this is a true story when there is a among the writers a "Mondo" director as Franco Prosperi is not, even this, a great idea.
We admire the will of Mario Garriazzo and it must be said that in his resume this film remains one of the best.
For the rest, "Amazonia: the Catherine Miles Story" shows all the limits of an idea that came late and it’s too restrained, which in addition to not show us cannibals leaves us almost without bloody scenes, except for a few early scenes.
So we are more on the adventure genre with a story in which Garriazzo and Prosperi and try to push to the maximum, using well set and creating an appropriate Amazzonian setting

The story is about Catherine Miles, the daughter of a rich family who goes in the jungle to visit her parents and while sailing on a river, a tribe (theoretically cannibal) attacks them and kills them. Catherine is kidnapped and brought to the village. Stripped, tortured, palpated and betrothed to one of the tribe. At first she tries to escape and then she falls in love with a young warrior with which witnesses the execution of the tribe and tries to save themselves. Catherine so learn the white man's evil and discovers who was really behind the murder of her parents.
The beautiful French Elvire Audray that we remember for several films of 80’s and who committed suicide (as some sources reports) at only forty years, plays the main character. Graceful, beautiful is almost always topless, but in addition to the "nice to see" must be recognized the ability to create a suitable character for the story. Perhaps the only positive note in a story that is not only already seen and in addition almost rips the audio commentary "Cannibal Holocaust" remains too slow and trapped in situations not very incisive. The “”Mondo” ending complete a movie simply useless.
