The Rocky Horror Picture Show – Let’s Do the Time Warp Again

This time to get lost are not Brad & Janet, but the dear old "Rocky Horror Show", lost among the remake, the homage and the commercial operation. Good for Richard O'Brien who earns more money from his most famous creature but bad for us: the fans.
We must say that, we are punctilious about the "Rocky Horror Show" (and its film), because for who is writing since from his youth (say from fourteen years, with the first viewing of the film and then following many theatre show) “Rocky Horror Show” is the perfect story. The rebellion, punk, rock'n'roll, human rights. A different musical and breaking musical. Therefore, hands off from the "Rocky Horror Show".
That said let's go back to the recent past and the present, because the idea of a remake has been circulating for a bit 'of years. After ideas and projects then abandoned only this year succeed. Lou Adler already executive producer of the original film and Gail Berman collaborate with the "Fox" TV channel, which broadcasts the new “Rocky Horror Show” the 20 October 2016. The "Fox" had already passed earlier this year "Grease Live" and obviously satisfied with the result tries also with Frank'n'Further and mates.
The director is not Jim Sharman, but there is Kenny Ortega choreographer and partly filmmaker specializing in musicals and musical films like "High School Musical" "This Is It" by Michael Jackson and more. One who knows well the genre, or at least should know.
The basic idea is more than right and mixes the film with the audience reactions present in a movie theater. A really good idea because the audience is an integral part of the "Rocky Horror Show" and if we want its added value. Unfortunately it’s also the only thing that Ortega captures from the original story and his work doesn’t go far to being a film that is neither a live nor a remake, but a winking product for TV
In this new Rocky misses the trash, the punk and the rebel soul. Ortega then, incredibly, does not always emphasize the choreography (especially in "Damn it Janet") and the new songs arrangements round the original rock to pop/rock often annoying, as in the case of "Rose Tint My World". "Time Warp" instead, the most beloved and well-known song becomes a kind of uninspiring cover with Riff Raff and Magenta far to being the nice and nasty (and naughty) aliens.
Oh yes, the characters. Let's start with honor the good Tim Curry, here in the role of the narrator/ criminologist in which shows the evident signs of health problems that have hit him in recent years. A beautiful and pleasant interpretation, but, as said so far, it is not the highlight of his resume. The role of Frank'n'Furter is played by Laverne Cox, already appreciates and award winning in "Orange is the new black". His “Sweet Transvestite”, either for her personal story of for her skill is definitely great.  Funny, evil and beautiful she has nothing to envy to Tim Curry, or the many excellent actors that we saw in the theaters (Bob Simon ora pro nobis).
Aside from her, others are a faithful copy of the original, no more and no less, and on this issue there is nothing to say.
The Rocky is a 2016 film that we never wanted to see. Is better the original, with its sense of poverty than a richer production that shows good means, but that takes away the incomparable authenticity of the "Rocky Horror Show" (and its film). Don’t’ do anymore "Time Warp". Please.
